Happy Birthday Kurt Cobain.

He'd be 42 today. Spin put together a nice little list of bands they think he'd like if he were still around. Also, WornFree is selling reproductions of famous shirts that Cobain wore, such as my personal favorite, "Grunge is dead." I have a picture of him wearing it and imitating a yawning Francis Bean on my bulletin board.

Dent May

I just got off the phone with Dent May, the bespectacled front man of Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele. I'll have the interview up in a few days, but now I leave you with this wonderfully charming video for his song, "Oh Paris!"

Teen Vogue!

A week or two ago, someone at Teen Vogue contacted me about profiling Half A Person on their website. So, I was interviewed and asked to send in some pictures, and last night they posted it!

It's Blitz

I'm a big Yeah Yeah Yeah's fan, and so I am super excited for their next album, It's Blitz. There is not much point to this post except to show you all the incredible album art. It has to be one of the coolest pictures I've ever seen. It took me a couple seconds to realize that it's an egg. SO COOL!!!

Super Mash Bros

I LOVE mash-ups. I follow tons of DJs from Girl Talk to team9 to Go Home Productions to Party Ben. I think that mash-ups are in many ways the perfect form of pop music. They blend every genre of music to create new, fresh songs. Anyone who does not consider mash-ups to be real music needs to go punch themselves in the face. Anyway, a few of my friends and I email each other links to good mash-ups when we hear them, and my friend Will just sent me a link to the Super Mash Bros MySpace. So far, so great. I'm hearing Bubba Sparxxx against Modest Mouse and Sixpence None the Richer, Eminem alongside MGMT, Lil Jon rapping to a Sum 41 riff...pop perfection!

Earplugs.

After a lesson in my Anatomy class about how loud music can kill my ears, I've decided to buy some nice earplugs. I shopped around online and ended up going with the Earlove model. They came in the mail the other day and they're pretty comfortable. Apparently they don't ruin sound much either, which will be a big step up from those $1 foam plugs! The only times I've ever felt the need for plugs have been when I saw the Hives and when I saw Dan Deacon. I could feel those shows in my ears for the next day. Anyway, hopefully I won't go deaf now!

Happy Birthday to Me :)

Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah!

Valentine's Day!

I know Valentine's Day was yesterday, but here are some great love songs anyway!

"Strange Powers" by Magnetic Fields
I think this song has some of my favorite lyrics ever. The Shins cover is also great.

"You Are The Best Thing" by Ray LaMontagne
I've been a Ray fan since his first (AMAZING) album, Trouble. This song, from his most recent album, Gossip In The Grain, is a horn-filled soul jam.

"I Want You" by Bob Dylan
One of my favorite Dylan songs! For all I know, this could all be a political metaphor that's way over my head, but I'd rather just take it as a simple love song and leave it at that.

"I'm In Love With A Girl" by Big Star
Perfect...but unfortunately I can't find it on YouTube!

"Let My Love Open the Door" by Pete Townshend
This is probably one of the happiest songs ever.

That's it for now. Happy Valentine's Day!
